The Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society (HARTS), having the history of over 90 years, being a Society for Amateur Radio hams, is the only MemberSociety of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) in Hong Kong.

HARTS devotedly promotes Amateur Radio activities and serves the ham community by installing and maintaining beacon and repeaters. HARTS VHF/UHF repeaters are located at Tai Mo Shan, Tate Cairn, Victoria Peak, Tin Shui Wai and Sai Kung. Representatives from HARTS try every effort to protect the right and interest of hams. We collate views and comments to the Office of the Communications Authority and maintain harmonious relationship with other radio societies, local and overseas as well.

HARTS actively participated in international ham radio affairs. We attend IARU Conferences, maintain close relationship with HAM societies in China and Macau. We also provide support to the IARU in revelant areas. In 2006, we assisted the IARU by manning the exhibition booth in the International Telecommunication Union Exhibitions ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006. We participated in 2012 China HAM festival in Shenzhen. We operated HQ station and joined IARU HF Championship.

At the end of 2005, HARTS established the Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) group. We stand-by round the clock aiming at assisting in saving life and properties with serving the community as our prime goal.

In the past ten years, HARTS trained amateur radio operators in assisting various charitable organizations in fund raising activities. We provided radio communication networks and deployed radio operators to ensure the safety of all participants and working personnel. The hiking or running competitions being organized by various charitable organizations are our target of services.

In recent years, we co-operate with Hong Kong Red Cross to provide them with radio communication workshops to enahance their knowledge and skills in radio communication during diasters relief operations.
Since 2007, HARTS was awarded the "Gold Medal - Volunteer Movement" by the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong Government. HARTS was also awarded the "Caring Organization" by Hong Kong Council Of Social Service (HKCSS) in 2007 - 2012.
We believe, the relevant activities would provide valuable opportunities to train up radio operators in responding to emergencies as well as communication skills. More important, we can take the chance to promote amateur radio to the public in order to generalize the hobby.
After the adoption of motion by majority vote in the EGM held on 11/5/2010 and AGM held on 14/12/2010, the Executive Committee of Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society (HARTS) kicked-off the project of establishing a company limited by guarantee for HARTS, with the ambition to strive for more resources to develop amateur radio in Hong Kong. Most company limited by guarantee in Hong Kong are also registered charitable institutions.
After around two years of continuous effort, we are pleased to announce that Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society (HARTS) was incorporated in the Company Registry under the Companies Ordinance as “Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society Limited” (HARTS Ltd.) on 22/3/2012, which is a company limited by guarantee without a share capital. On 27/4/2012, the Inland Revenue Department confirmed that with effect from 22/3/2012, the HARTS Ltd., being a charitable institution of trust of a public character, is exempt from tax under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
Apart from changing of legal status, the prime objectives, operations, memberships and the composition of the executive committee remain unchanged. HARTS Ltd will continue to serve the community by undertaking non-profit-making charitable activities and definitely will comply with all licensing and relevant requirements from the Government as well as the Office of the Communications Authority.
