主旨:         [R3-dcom] Mexico storm 17 Sep. 2013

Zian Hello, thank you very much for information and communications activity
on the amateur radio emergency in the state of Guerrero. We would also appreciate
if possible, you can provide pictures of some affected communities or amateur
radio emergency activity that is very helpful for our records and for the
task IARU regions when doing analysis of different hydrometeorological phenomena.
We will be in touch and thanks for your information.

73, Cesar Pio Santos HR2P

Start of forwarded message:

Hi Cesar.

Let me inform you that this emcomm activity started yesterday around 10:00
am Central Time Mexico, because of effects of Tropical Storm Manuel, the
State of Guerrero remained incommunicado, lost communications via landline,
cellular and even via Nextel, so it was necessary that we supported this
by emergency amateur communications.

Stations were working with several locations in the State by facilitating
communications to and from the affected areas also remained constant monitoring
of the situation in different states of the Mexican Republic, mainly in the
Gulf of Mexico.

This weather situation which presented two storms of this strength has not
occurred in the Mexican republic since 1958.

The hurricane season was not as intense for a long time.

Is expected from tomorrow September 18 in the Pacific conditions improve,
though the rainstorm Manuel seems to intensify again and is likely to affect
the region of the Baja California Peninsula and the Gulf of California.

On the side of the Gulf of Mexico also continues the activity and that a
new low pressure is affecting including Belize, has not been heard by any
station in the country at the moment.

Well Cesar, I hope that conditions will continue to improve but in the meantime
so you slopes can offer, thank you very much for your support and thanks
from us to EMCOR IARU zone 1 for your understanding and support.

We were pending.

The toll from devastating storms of Ingrid and Manuel has reached 80 with
many stranded and more than 50 missing in a massive landslide north of Acapulco.

The Mexican IARU member society, Federacion Mexicana De Radio Experimentadores
(FMRE) is using both 7060 and 14120 kHz to carry emergency traffic.

Zian Taboada XE1ATZ reports that tropical storm Manuel hit the State of Guerrero
which is cut off from the outside world with the loss of communications,
now being provided by amateur radio.

Stations in several locations are helping the communications in the affected
areas and receiving messages from the Gulf of Mexico.

"This weather situation of two storms of this strength has not occurred in
the Mexican republic since 1958," Zian XE1ATZ said.

The weather was expected to improve on the Pacific side, though the rainstorm
Manuel seems to intensifying and likely to affect the region of the Baja
California Peninsula and the Gulf of California.

Officials in Mexico put at 35,000 the number of homes damaged or destroyed.
Electricity, water and communications have been cut, flights cancelled and
widespread food shortages.

The hurricane season had trained and prepared radio amateurs in a number
of countries on alert.
